With the demands for more computers and data centers to power AI, the market is experiencing a shortage of RAM, causing memory prices to surge.
The latest versions of Apple's MacBook Pro laptops include M5 chips with revamped architecture to bring performance upgrades across the board.
Apple on Tuesday announced new MacBook Pro models that feature the M5 Pro and M5 Max, high-end chips that replace the M4 Pro and M4 Max. The M5 Pro and M5 Max offer significantly boosted performance over the base M5 chip in the 14-inch MacBook Pro that was released in October, along with a few surprises.
Apple made some compromises to sell a Mac notebook at $599, including cutting back on RAM. While all other Macs start at 16GB RAM, the MacBook Neo is equipped with 8GB RAM and no option to upgrade to more memory.
The chips are engineered around Apple's new Fusion Architecture, an advanced design that merges two dies into a single, high-performance system on a chip (SoC).
The updated MacBook Pros aren't the only new Apple gadgets available for preorder this week. Shoppers can also reserve the new M5 MacBook Airs, a new budget iPhone 17e, an M4 iPad Air, new Studio Displays, and the all-new budget MacBook Neo ahead of their collective March 11 launch.
Apple on Wednesday launched the MacBook Neo, a cheaper model signaling a fresh attempt to court Windows and Chromebook users as ongoing component shortages shake the broader market.
Apple's Senior Vice President of Hardware Engineering John Ternus talked exclusively to ABC News to discuss the new and affordable MacBook Neo.
